2021 repress! the third time is the charme...that’s right. thus, the joy about the third album by marek hemmann is huge. likewise, the third album is perceived as an important brand which ought to show the actual extent of a musician’s potential. either hold one’s ground or dare something new? marek hemmann is not deterred by such expectations. he was merely in the mood for new tracks. the eight newcomers on “moments” sound accordingly - easygoing, detached and characterised by the same profoundly and harmonically balanced musicality for which marek hemmann is world-renowned. anyhow, a “just continue as before” mentality is not an option for the berliner by choice - from the beginning, his music effort- lessly blurred the established genre lines. in this vein, his new work is influenced by a great candour. as already accomplished with his highly esteemed albums “in between”and “bittersweet”, in “moments” marek hem- man takes the listeners - and certainly the dancers - on a journey through different spheres of contemporary electronic music.

iperborea (in english hyperborea) is a legendary land, home of the also mythical people of the hyperboreans. in the myths of greek religion, the hyperboreans were a people who lived in a distant land to the north of greece. this region was a perfect country, illuminated by the shining sun for six months of the year. the ep opens with the track -nuda veritas-, characterized by sound textures that recall an aquatic and evanescent environment, giving the track a charge of mystery and the unknown. then the journey goes to -iperborea-, which gives the album its title, there are strong references to the power of the sun and the mythical people of the hyperboreans. the first is given by the constant presence of a modulated niose that simulates the solar wind, that is a flow of particles emitted by the sun. on the other hand, the reference to the mythical people is made through a pressing and epic groove, and by the contrast of these two elements with a pad/stab synth that transits in the middle of the track. the latter outlines a dreamlike and suspended atmosphere that praises this distant and legendary land that was iperborea (hyperborea). among with these original tracks, the ep also containes remixes by scope and laertes. laertes’ rexmis is focused on soft and gentle mysterious mood while scope’s one is more focused on mysterious but powerful which makes audience imagine somewhat aspects of a destructive god. together they are making a perfect pair match for this ep>

2021 repress!!having launched 2016 with his octavia ep, lost & found boss guy j returns home to kick start 2017, with a new double-header born out of moments in time, inspiration and a quest for a specific sound.

the label with the big center hole is back! another two instrumentals on the a while keith murray got remixed on the b. heavy sampled material for the extra oldschool flavour. golden 90s sound for the underground.

this is a very limited run of 250 copies. mystical circles is a brand-new imprint with its eyes firmly on the dancefloor. the label s first missive comes courtesy of island times deejay, a dj/producer/re-editor previous best known for his dj mixes, which were uniformly full of obscure, hard-to-find disco gems. we have no idea what the source material is for either of the edits here, but they sound like caribbean disco records. disco smoking is unfeasibly heavy, driving and stomping, with mazy horn solos, jazzy funk guitars and hazy vocal snippets riding a booming bassline and sweaty, non-stop drums. dawson street is a more relaxed, and rubbery affair, albeit one rich in chiming melodies, spacey synth solos, winding sax lines and elastic bass guitar. as the welsh would say: tidy!

revelation ep is the debut release of australian record label denude, showcasing the latest work of melbourne based artist eddie hale. the title track revelation is both driving and warm - layered percussion lines rise and fall amongst detroit inspired stabs and subtly textured elements creating an infectious and uplifting groove. a2’s surging is both tunnelling and driving - straight into late night / early hours territory - with swirling sounds forming a hypnotizing sonic bath for the body and mind. rounding up the a side with a change of pace, aperture’s syncopated percussion leads us on a peaceful detour through ethereal synthscapes as we follow the round journey of an evolving sound that travels full circle. on the flip, joel mull’s hypno mix of revelations propels the listener with mechanical precision through dizzyingly expansive atmospheres of truly mind melting proportions. closing out the ep is terrace of an elephant, tranquil and reflective synth-work juxtaposed with coloured stabs striking through like comets across the night sky - brings us back down to earth in a contemplative mood.
